The University of Connecticut Meets Sustainability Goals With the Help of 3D TRASAR® Technology

Nalco recently demonstrated the environmental benefits of our 3D TRASAR® technology at the University of Connecticut, documenting eROI water savings of 8 million gallons per year.

The University of Connecticut has been a Nalco customer since 2008, when the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection requested that the University pursue aggressive conservation measures after exhausting their drinking water resources during the previous summer. The University approached Nalco to help meet their new sustainability initiative in order to prevent future water shortages on campus.

By summer 2009, Nalco had reduced water consumption by 24 percent compared to the previous year using 3D TRASAR technology, generating yearly savings of nearly $40,000 on water costs alone. Approximately 45,000 gallons is saved every day during their cooling season - enough water to fill 12 Olympic-size swimming pools.

"Universities and state colleges, like industry, are taking steps today more than ever to measure and improve their environmental footprint. The University of Connecticut had a compelling need with state water shortages being a concern for the community and the university. The presentation made the business case for the University and all its stakeholders that we can reduce costs along with conserving water," said Emilio Tenuta, Corporate Sustainability and Brand Manager.

"It is very exciting to see how well Billy has communicated and ultimately implemented Nalco's technology to deliver real value and results to help the University successfully obtain their key success drivers," said Ken Yankowski, Strategic Business Manager.
