Nalco Garyville Plant Named Louisiana SAFE Award Winner

Nalco announced today that its plant in Garyville, La. has been honored by the Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA) with a 2011 SAFE (Serious About Fostering Excellence) Award for facility’s environmental and safety performance and community outreach efforts.

The Garyville Plant was recognized as the Best in Louisiana for Class Two, locations with 101 to 200 full time employees. The SAFE program evaluates a plant’s performance in employee safety, contractor safety, environmental efforts and “good neighbor” activities with local communities. Winners are selected from almost 100 facilities statewide.

“Health and safety, strong environmental performance & keeping our plants, products and people secure are top priorities for all LCA members,” Dan Borne’, LCA President said. “Chemical manufacturers work relentlessly on this because great performance every day in these critical areas is equally important to folks who live in communities where plants operate.”

The Garyville Plant is Nalco’s largest manufacturing site in the world. It is the second time in the past four years the plant has received the SAFE award.

“Safety is a core value at Nalco,” said Plant Manager Carl Pasquarelli. “We make safety personal for our employees and our target is always zero – zero emissions, accidents and injuries. We also believe in supporting our community including our Adopt a School programs, United Way contributions, the American Cancer Society, St. James Parish 4-H and the Garyville Volunteer Fire Department and other groups.”

Earlier this year Nalco’s Garyville plant was also honored by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for the facility’s environmental and pollution prevention efforts. It is the second straight year the plant has been recognized with an Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) Award.
