Nalco WPS Receives Special Recognition Award from Honda

Honda has long been known for its quality, innovation and high standards. So it was quite an honor when Water and Process Services (WPS) received a 2013 Special Recognition Award from the automaker, ranking it among the best suppliers for its Central Region.

The Maintenance, Repair and Operational Services (MRO) Special Recognition award is presented annually to suppliers for “outstanding project initiatives to achieve and promote innovation.” WPS was cited for “continually looking for ways to reduce Honda’s water consumption and chemical usage in efforts to minimize Honda’s environmental impact.” The award was presented to WPS and five other suppliers at Honda’s annual MRO Supplier Conference in June.

“It’s a tremendous honor for Honda to recognize us for our achievements in partnering with the company to find ways to further green its plants and improve its processes,” said Tony Mackovski, global executive account manager. “This award not only acknowledges our hard work and commitment, it strengthens our partnership and makes the rest of the Honda community aware of our capabilities.”
To receive the award, WPS had to meet or exceed a number of environmental, safety, quality, cost and other benchmarks.

These included:
• Reducing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) via our sustainable APEX technology for paint detackification.
• Transitioning to sustainable and renewable products in the paint detackification process to eliminate the use of known carcinogens like formaldehyde
• Reducing costs by 10 percent annually, exceeding the 3 percent that was required

Our success had a lot to do with one of the key criteria for the award: Demonstrating exceptional effort to exceed customer expectations.
“Our team has listened carefully over the years to what Honda said they needed to support their varied water treatment needs,” said Eric Ouderkirk, director of marketing, global manufacturing. “The WPS team collectively implemented programs that delivered continuous value via our CMV approach.”

It’s also further confirmation of the role we play as trusted partners and advisors to our customers.
